Why does this need a backend when PDF to JPG doesn't?

PDF to JPG just rasterizes a page to an image, which pdf.js can do in-browser. Reconstructing editable text, headings and tables requires layout analysis a browser can't perform alone.

Will formatting be perfect after conversion?

Reconstruction quality depends on the original PDF's structure — text-based PDFs convert far better than scanned image-only PDFs, which would need OCR first.

What happens if I click Convert to Word right now?

If no backend is configured, the page tells you clearly that a backend isn't connected rather than pretending to convert your file.

Is this tool actually finished?
