About the Split PDF tool
Split PDF breaks one PDF into several smaller files using pdf-lib, entirely in your browser. Split every page into its own file, or specify a custom range like 1-3, 5, 7-9 to extract only the pages you need — the rest are left out of the result. The output is delivered as a single ZIP so you can grab every resulting file in one download, rather than saving each page individually.
Splitting comes up whenever a PDF contains more than you need in one piece: a signed contract bundled with unrelated appendices, a scanned batch that actually contains three separate documents, or a long report where a colleague only needs chapter three. Rather than sending the whole file and asking someone to "just look at page 12," you can hand them exactly that page.
Two ways to split
Every page separately creates one new PDF per page in the original document — useful when you need to distribute or archive pages individually, or when you're not yet sure which pages you'll need and want them all available on their own. Custom range lets you type exactly which pages to keep using a simple syntax: commas separate individual pages, hyphens define a continuous range, and you can mix both (1-3, 5, 7-9 keeps pages 1 through 3, page 5, and pages 7 through 9 — nothing else).
How it works under the hood
The tool loads your PDF's bytes into pdf-lib, reads how many pages it contains, and for each requested output file, creates a new empty PDF document and copies across only the specific pages you asked for — preserving their original vector content, fonts and images exactly. Every resulting file is then added to a ZIP archive using JSZip, so a 40-page "split every page" job still downloads as a single, well-organized file instead of triggering 40 separate download prompts.

Tips for the best results
- Open the PDF in a viewer first to confirm exact page numbers before typing a custom range.
- Use "Every page separately" if you're archiving a scanned document and want each page individually searchable in a file browser.
- Need to combine the split-out pages with something else afterward? Use Merge PDF.
- Large resulting ZIP? Compress the individual PDFs afterward with Compress PDF.
