About QR Code Scanner
QR Code Scanner reads a QR code from any image you upload — a screenshot, a photo, a scanned flyer — using the jsQR decoding library, entirely in your browser. The decoded text or link is shown immediately, with a one-click copy button.
This is useful whenever you have an image with a QR code but no phone camera handy, or want to check exactly what a QR code links to before scanning it with your phone.
Checking a link before you trust it
QR codes hide their destination until scanned, which is exactly what makes malicious ones effective — a code stuck over a parking meter or printed on a flyer could point anywhere. Scanning through this tool decodes the text first, without automatically opening any link, so you can read exactly what's encoded and decide for yourself whether it's safe to visit before your phone's camera app takes you straight there.
How the decoding works
This tool uses jsQR, an open-source pure-JavaScript QR decoding library, to analyze the pixel data of your uploaded image directly via the Canvas API's getImageData method. It locates the QR pattern's distinctive corner markers, reads the encoded modules, and applies the same error-correction and decoding steps a phone camera's QR reader would — all without the image ever leaving your browser tab.
QR Code Scanner: this tool vs. the alternatives
| Method | Cost | Privacy | Speed | Auto-opens links? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| QuickPDFHubPro (this tool) | Free | Runs in-browser, no upload | Instant | No — shows text only, you decide |
| Phone camera's built-in QR reader | Free (built into the OS) | Local | Instant | Often prompts to open immediately |
| Dedicated QR scanner apps | Often free, some paid | Varies by app | Instant | Varies — check app permissions |
| Other online scanners | Often free, some paywalled | Varies — check if files are uploaded | Depends on server load | Varies |
Tips for the best results
- Crop the image tightly around just the QR code first if the scan fails on a busy or cluttered photo.
- Always read the decoded text carefully before visiting any link it contains, especially from an unfamiliar source.
- Need to create a QR code instead of reading one? Use QR Code Generator.
- Scanning a screenshot that's too small to decode reliably? Try Resize Image to enlarge it first.
